About Doug
Doug is an absolute doyen in the Yarra Valley and Outer Eastern suburbs’ Real Estate Industry of Melbourne. Having bought the agency from Lex Noble in 1975, Doug is proud to have established a trusted and solid reputation for exemplary service, punctuality and professionalism, and that has resulted in some of his ‘regular’ clients coming back to him for over forty years! Whilst continuing to take an active role in the family business he founded, Doug now has the pleasure of watching his three children (Catherine, Anthony and Bradley) share his passion for looking after the community’s needs in Real Estate, and position themselves as managerial and operational entities in their own right within the company.
Doug’s experience and knowledge is immeasurable. He has many a story to tell about how he sold the first ever winery property in the Yarra Valley, and went on to handle the properties now showcasing our wine region at Domain Chandon, Chateau Yering, DeBortoli, Balgownie Estate and the once prominent Andrew Garrett. And then there’s the first block of land he ever bought in Launching Place (at the age of sixteen), for the princely sum of $400, that he on-sold twelve months later for $800.
“I’ve lived in the Valley my entire life. I was born and bred in Gruyere on the family farm, and now reside on five gorgeous acres in Yarra Glen. It’s always been the place I call home, although I do love to go ‘anywhere north’ in the winter for a bit of fishing, with the aim of someday catching a whopping great big marlin!”
Doug credits the success of Noble Knight Real Estate to the fact that his is the only independent agency still in the area. “The longevity of the business has always been supported by word of mouth referrals, local successful investors, and an expansive rent roll. Our clients also love the fact that whenever they return to us, there’s always a familiar family Knight ‘on-hand’ to remember them. That sense of consistency is something that’s lacking in the industry today. Our investors (large and small) know we’ll give them qualified advice and treat them in the way that they like to do business. Our first home buyers know we’re going to be around to help them for a long time to come, and our Landlords and Tenants are assured that we know how to achieve the outcomes they’re looking for in both the short and long term.”
Doug still enjoys the challenge of auctioneering, and maintains that it’s the relationships he has within the community that keeps him inspired to remain involved in the business ad infinitum - and when asked for his best advice, as a property investor, he’ll tell you, “Buy it, sit on it and don’t sell it! The value of property may dip from time to time but it will always rise again.”
